The Psychic Learning Curve
If you wish to gain psychic power, it is not enough to simply learn the techniques involved. You must also learn the specifics of the field in which you are planning to engage. From telepathy to psychokinesis, remote viewing to healing, they all have a learning curve.
If you wish to practice psychic information gathering, you must become familiar with what information "feels" like in the mode you have chosen. Lets say you are going to be guessing the patterns on playing cards. You know consciously, what the pictures on the cards are, hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs. No problem, right? Your subconscious mind perceives them very differently though. The names you call these pictures are stored, by and large, in your conscious mind. This means that, since much of the initial information gathering involved in psychic function takes place in the more primitive areas of the mind, that you will have to translate from your sub-conscious mind before you can use the information.
Most untrained and self-trained psychics use only the information they have picked up as a matter of living, in day to day life, which often restricts the amount, and types, of information they can understand psychically. Since they are working from instinct, the way that they understand this information tends to be in specific ways as well. Seeing visions, hearing voices, simply knowing what is, these are all just different ways of translating the non-verbal, non-visual (mostly, at any rate, there seems to be some exceptions to this) information picked up by sub-conscious processes.
If you are going to practice a specific set of skills, it is important to get used to the specific information you are working planning to work with. This means that you will want to practice as much as possible with testable feedback. Remember, the goal of psychic practice is not just to be right, it is to gain an understanding of what each piece of information means.
This ability to learn and remember, as well as to concentrate and focus our thoughts, is what makes our psychic potential so high. Studies show that every living thing is psychic. Even bacteria seem to react on a psychic level to threat and negative stimuli! When bacteria grown from the same original cell are separated and placed in two different dishes and then separated in space, both react when one of them is given an electric jolt. No matter how far away from one another they are.
Very primitive plants and animals cannot use the psychic information they pick up though, or at least not well. Even mammals rarely use their abilities in these matters to full potential. So far psychic skills, used in effective ways, seem the purview of higher mammals. Including humans.
The difference then is in the learned information and skills we can develop.
Let's go back to the example of the playing cards first. It is not a very useful skill, unless you play cards a lot, but its easy to see how the process works.
Hold the cards face down. Without naming the suit out loud, feel what it is in your mind and turn the card over. The trick is to just know what the card is. Don?t state a guess.
If you are correct, make a mental note of what it felt like in your mind. No need to name it, or count it, or mark your progress at this point. It is all about learning how it feels.
If you are wrong, make a note of that too, then move on.
This is not a scientific test or a test at all. In fact such testing often slows down the learning process. Forebrain thought, such as reading, writing and counting will distract you from the psychic, conceptual information from your subconscious, making good results difficult to produce.
Just pay attention to what you are studying and you will reach understanding of the subject.
The same kind of practice is needed to learn certain psychokinetic concepts as well. If you understand, on a subconscious level, the object you are influencing and the goal of that influence, you will get far better results. The only way of picking up such information is to focus on a concept, the one you wish to hold, on a regular basis.
If it is something that you can readily test, you will notice your effectiveness increase as your subconscious mind learns the needed patterns.
The basic skills involved are not enough to give high level results in all areas. This is often true in all of our endeavors.
When you were in your first algebra lesson, you had years of math experience, reading and writing were old hat, you even knew how to sit at the desk without killing your tailbone. Even with all of that, you still had to learn algebra as a separate and new skill. If you had been used as an example of whether algebra was real or not?
Algebra would not have faired too well.
Its much the same with any given psychic skill. Telepathy requires you to understand the information coming from the minds of others. Precognition has its own sense of time difference. Psychokinesis is a reversal of the sensing process in many ways, meaning you have to understand the "psychic feel" of what you are doing first. Healing has its own patterns, those that balance energy and those that restore a body to health.
You can, eventually, learn to use any of the normal psychic abilities. You have all of the basic hardware that you need. Take the time to practice those you wish to excel at and you will make great progress.
